Frequently asked questions

Where are your shutters made?

Alstonville Shutters uses locally manufactured shutters, made in Ballina or the Gold Coast, and we also offer a range of imported products from Asia, depending on the shutter you choose.

How much do shutters cost?

The price of shutters can vary substantially, depending on your choice of shutter and the size of your windows. As a rough guide, PVC shutters start at approx. $400 per square metre installed, and up to $650 per square metre for timber shutters. We are more than happy to provide you with an obligation free measure and quote.

Are my shutters covered by a Warranty?

All our shutters are covered by Warranty for defective materials or workmanship, and paint finish. Warranties do vary with each product, and full details will be provided with each shutter purchase.

How long before installation?

The average turn-around time from acceptance of quote to installation is 6-8 weeks.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes, we request a deposit of 40% upon acceptance of quote, and the remainder on the day of installation.

Which is better – Timber or PVC?

That depends on the situation. Timber is a beautiful medium; light and sturdy and allows for greater spans. There is a greater range of colours and stains in the timber shutters.

PVC is less expensive and is recommended for wet areas as it will not absorb moisture.

Each material has benefits, and ultimately either shutter choice will improve the functionality and style of your home.

How do I look after my shutters?

Plantation Shutters are very easy to clean and maintain. Wipe over the blades regularly with a soft dry cloth or vacuum attachment to remove any dust, then with a damp cloth to remove any marks or prints, and finally a clean dry cloth to remove any excess moisture. Enjo products are ideal for cleaning shutters!

Will my shutters fade?

Over time, all painted or stained products can be affected by the sun. Shutters in full sun windows, or with darker paint/stain colours are more vulnerable to fading. Timber shutters can be sanded and re-painted if they are well maintained and kept in good condition. Our manufacturers provide a warranty for between 2-3 years on painted or stained finishes.
